Girl Scout Cadettes - Digital Animation AM Session

This ONLINE course provides you with an overview of animation concepts presented through demonstrations using a variety of animation techniques ranging from hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation to computer animation. As your competency with timing becomes established, you will then go beyond just making things move and focus on understanding critical animation principles that will bring your characters to life.

You will learn:

• The main stages of the animation production pipeline
• Principles of timing and character animation
• Different traditional and digital media used to create animation

Participants must be age 12 to 14 years old, and will need to have access to a computer as well:

• Windows PC or Mac computer
• Broadband internet connection
• Display with minimum resolution of 1024 x 768. Because of the nature of this class, it is recommended to have a second monitor connected to the computer to extend the desktop. This allows the student to more easily follow what the instructor is demonstrating while concurrently being able to see the software environment that the student is working within. A good alternative to a second computer monitor is a tablet (eg. iPad, Kindle Fire, etc.) with internet access that could be used to display the instructor's screen.

Orientation Session:

Please note that in order to ensure that students have their home computers set up correctly for the class, and to orientate students to learning in an online environment, there will be a 30-minute scheduled orientation session that will run the week before the workshop is scheduled to start. Information about this will be sent to students by the instructor the week before the start of the workshop.
