Description

Today’s 2D digital painters utilize a powerful combination of software and hardware to design, color, and render paintings of all subjects and styles. This course will teach how to use fundamental art principles in combination with 2D digital drawing and painting tools, including the use of a tablet.

Students will need to have their own digital drawing tablet (eg. Wacom CTL400, Huion Inspiroy H640P) for this course.

You will learn:

  • Elements of visual art: line, shape, form, color, value, space, and texture
  • Basic computer graphics theory about color depth, resolution, graphic modes, and image file formats
  • Setup and best practices for using graphics tablets
  • Core features and tools of 2D digital painting software including brushes, masks, and layers
  • Creative workflow for painting a variety of subjects on a digital canvas

Prerequisites:

  • No prior knowledge or experience is required

Technical Requirements:

Students must have access to a computer as well as additional hardware and software. Some programs or courses may indicate additional technology requirements, and not all programs are Mac compatible.

  • Windows PC or Mac computer with web camera
  • Display with minimum resolution of 1024 x 768. While it is not mandatory, it is recommended to have a second monitor connected to the computer to extend the desktop. This allows the student to more easily follow what the instructor is demonstrating while concurrently being able to see the software environment that the student is working within.
  • Headset with microphone
  • Three-button mouse
  • Digital drawing tablet (eg. Wacom CTL400, Huion Inspiroy H640P)
  • Broadband internet connection
  • Current, major internet browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari)
  • Latest version of Adobe Reader
  • Printer
