Junior Digital Game Design

This online workshop is for students aged 10-12 years old who would like to explore how programming, game design, art production, and sound design are combined to create engaging video games. You will gain not only a new appreciation for the hard work that went into making your favorite games, but also to create games that you will be able to share with your friends and family!

You will learn:

• The video game production process
• Game design principles, including game balance and effective interface design
• Coding basics such as variables, conditionals, iterations, and functions
• Art production processes and tools
• Creation of sound effects and music

Prerequisites:

• No prior knowledge or experience is required

Technical Requirements:

Students must have access to a computer as well as additional hardware and software. Some programs or courses may indicate additional technology requirements, and not all programs are Mac compatible.

• Windows PC or Mac computer with web camera
• Display with minimum resolution of 1024 x 768. While it is not mandatory, it is recommended to have a second monitor connected to the computer to extend the desktop. This allows the student to more easily follow what the instructor is demonstrating while concurrently being able to see the software environment that the student is working within.
• Headset with microphone
• Three-button mouse
• Broadband internet connection
• Current, major internet browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari)
• Latest version of Adobe Reader
• Printer
