Description

The Animatronic Studio is for those who have prior experience in robotics or electronics, and who are interested in learning the art and science of bringing robotics characters to life. Whether it is a moving dinosaur in a museum, or a famous cartoon character brought to life in a theme park show, these animatronics are technical and creative marvels that require cross-disciplinary skills to produce a creature’s actions and even facial expressions. After assessing your current knowledge, experience, and interests, the instructor will collaborate with you to develop a plan to guide you through the process of designing, fabricating and controlling an animatronic using servos, sensors, and microcontrollers. There can even be opportunities to collaborate with other students on a small team-based project*.

Benefits of Studio format:

  • Emphasis on individual growth through personalized assessment and learning plan for each student
  • Instructor focus to ensure fluency with artistic knowledge and skills
  • Access to variety of digital design tools and fabrication equipment
  • Engaging project work that is aligned with student interest
  • Given the individualized nature of the course, this studio is designed to be repeatable

DigiPen will discuss option for students to work together on a game project but cannot guarantee that students will choose to do so. In such situations, students will be directed to work on their own projects.

Tuition includes:

  • Lunch and snacks
  • Materials and supplies

Prerequisites:

  • Prior experience working with robotics and/or electronics, including having taken any workshops related to these areas.
