This studio explores the fundamental techniques of wheel-thrown pottery and hand-building. Students will learn about the ceramic process, beginning with pinching, coiling, and slab construction, to wedging and centering clay on the potter’s wheel. As they become more comfortable with these basic processes, students will then throw basic cylinders, which are the foundation for vases, cups, bowls, and more complex forms. The instructor will help students develop their own sense of personal aesthetics through discussions of the roles that form, balance, volume, surface texture, negative space, and color have in making a good pot.
There will be no classes on February 1st or March 21st due to our Summer Preview Days.
